The Domesticated Beard started after a few drinks at Easter dinner. I was joking about starting a youtube channel offering housework tips for men, specifically, a video on how to change a duvet. 3 bourbons deep I was having a laugh as I bought the domain for TheDomesticatedBeard.com
We never did make that YouTube video, but I started sharing some personal stories on Instagram regarding my battle with cancer and our experience with child loss. The response was honestly pretty overwhelming. It’s been a long 18 months but I feel like the focus of this brand has really zeroed in on something of value.
Today, The Domesticated Beard is all about building an online community. A space where it’s ok to say I’m struggling with this, I might need some help. There’s always a few guys dealing with the same shit, but if no one ever speaks on it we’re all forced to face these things alone. If I have to be the first to speak up and check my ego at the door then so be it. True honesty and self reflection have pulled me off of some pretty dark paths in my life and my mission here is to shine a little light on those paths for the next guy.
My name is Brandon, I’m a father, son, brother and soon to be husband. I’ve made the trip to hell and back a few times in my life and I’m here to share some of the lessons I’ve learnt along the way.
